More than 1.8 million hectares are infested with Wilding Pines and New Zealand’s rugged terrain makes it challenging to access the scope of these infestations. Groundwork alone will not be near enough to get on top of this tree pest.
Aerial Methods are helicopter assisted. It is a pretty useful flying vehicle to have in the conifer control toolbox. Helicopters have the means to climb altitude into the hard-to-reach places, they can be maneuverable and hover in position which is particularly handy for the likes of Aerial Basal Bark Application (ABBA).
Watch the video to view the different control methods using helicopters, we’ll explain why they are effective. ABBA uses a Basal Bark mixture on wand to chemically ringbark tree trucks and eliminate the wrong tree in the wrong place. It’s particularly effective towards younger conifer trees which are interwoven with desirable vegetation.
Aerial Foliar Spray Application (AFSA) is effective where there might be a large block of mature invasive conifers but weather and other conditions must be optimum before lift-off. Accuracy and efficiency of application gets more refined with every operation. Spray nozzles are designed and tested to be very direct. Overall herbicide use is far more accurate and uses considerably lower volumes than what most public perceive about Aerial spraying.
